This Walk was accomplished through strategic routes by which the mother of the disappeared could be heard by the authorities

WHY DO WE WALK?

This is a project of multidisciplinary production, whereby art is suggested as a mean, not as an end. The land walk performances propose themselves as a method of resistance and visibilization of the forced disappearances.

These “Walks” were accomplished throughout routes daily taken by the disappeared sons and relatives. In order to accomplish these walks we went througout each family places of origin and neighbourhoods, which led us to realize that the disappearances are experienced in different ways depending on context, and operate as a method of community fragmentation.

The Orozco Medina family from Nuevo Zirosto Michoacan, searches for Leonel Orozco Ortiz, detained and disappeared on August 3rd, 2008, by army officials. Leonel Orizco Medina (17 years), detained and disappeared by AFI officials, and Moises Orozco Medina, detained and disappeared on May 22nd, 2012, by the Apatzigan local police department. Apart the violent fact of the disappearances of family members, these families were violently displaced from their houses and properties.

The Corona Banderas family, originally from Los Llanitos de Cucha, searches for Simon Corona Banderas, Patricio Barrera Corona and Rigoberto Garcia Mendoza, detained and disappeared on September 23rd, 2012 by officials of the Turicato Michoacan police department.

The Ortiz Ruiz family, originally from Morelia, searches for Guillermo Ortiz ruiz and Vianey Heredia Hernandez, detained and disappeared on November 29th, 2010.

At that moment, we worked together with the relatives that weren’t immersed in the search as much as the mothers were. For the first time, a dialogue was developed regarding how the disappearances affect each member, individually, and how they've been experiencing them.

During the “Walks”, all family members walked together, including the new generations - sons and daughters of the missing ones - leading them to ask their grandmothers and aunts the reasons why their fathers disappeared, or what was the point of the “Walk”, as they replied: the walk is to generate an historic memory, to prevent that this happens to other families, and to seek for truth and justice.
